Strong Mind, Strong Body – Review
Strong Mind, Strong Body
As a habit, I visit other fitness blogs, along with others that have nothing to do with our niche. I do this partly as a scouting mission to see what they’re doing, but mostly it’s social networking. There are a handful of these that I tend to frequent. They all have unique points of view, and I enjoy interacting with them on their turf.
The other day I was visiting one such blog. Right up at the top I noticed that they were advertising their new product. We are in no way, shape or form connected to this product. I just found it interesting, and want to pass the information along to you.
The new product is a new ebook that just came out at the beginning of January, 2010. I clicked on the link to see what it was all about. It took me to an offsite ebook retailer, Lulu.com. The first thing that caught my eye was the price. “No way”, I muttered, “$5?” For that price, I just had to check it out.
Yvonne Bridges, aka The Fitness Diva, is the author. She is a fitness instructor in New York, a boxing champion, and business owner. Yvonne also owns a number of blogs, including Confessions of a Fitness Diva.
The good
If you’re expecting the normal fitness ebook, boy, you‘re in for a surprise. In fact, the title, Strong Mind, Strong Body, should be a clue. This is about having the right mindset in order to achieve your fitness goals.
Guess what. This stuff doesn’t just relate to weight loss, exercise or eating right. The information that she covers can, and should be, applied to every aspect of your life.
Yvonne gives you twelve positive affirmations. She goes into in-depth reasons for using each of the twelve.
I can tell you from personal experience that by reading and speaking positive affirmations daily, results will follow. You may not believe them in the beginning, but one day something will click. When that happens, there will be no holding you back.
Will affirmations cause you to lose weight? No. That requires physical action of some kind. Basically, affirmations reprogram your brain to stay out of your way .
Next, Yvonne shows you how to implement these affirmation. After all, it doesn’t do you any good to have a car if you don’t know how to drive it. She goes over three very affective ways to use these, including writing them down, and saying them as often as needed.
The one that I had never thought of before is using a partner. It’s so simple. All it takes is a spouse, friend, family member, neighbor… anybody that needs to hear good things, and is willing to reciprocate.
The Bad
Come on, you knew that I’d have to pick at something. When purchasing an ebook on Lulu, they deliver it as a PDF. No big deal, since the majority of self-published ebooks are PDF’s also.
“So, what’re you complaining about?” Well, these are “special” PDF’s that will not open using Adobe Reader. If you don’t have it loaded on your computer already, you will need to go to Adobe’s website and download a program called Adobe Digital Editions. There is a link for the download on the purchase page. On top of that, you also have to register an account with Adobe in order to use the program.
The purpose of all of this is to keep people from buying the ebook and then giving copies away to others. In practice, it’s not a terrible idea. In reality, it can be a pain in the backside to get going.
As soon as I figured out what the problem was, and loaded the new software, all was good.
The Verdict
Yvonne did a bang-up job on this project. She has put together a quality product, and for the cost of a foot long sandwich from Subway, you can’t go wrong.
Do yourself a favor — right now, go get yourself a copy of Strong Mind, Strong Body. Don’t forget to check out Confessions of a Fitness Diva.
